Tim Gray

Tim Gray is an accomplished music educator, visual designer, clinician, and adjudicator with more than 35 years of experience in instrumental music and the pageantry arts. Raised in southeast Iowa, Gray studied euphonium performance at Illinois State University and earned degrees in music performance and music education from the University of Iowa.

Gray has served as Director of Bands at both Morton High School in Illinois and Bourbon County High School in Kentucky. During his first season at Bourbon County, the Marching Colonels earned the 2023 Kentucky Class 4A State Championship and the Bands of America Class A National Championship.

A former member of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, Gray won the DCI Solo and Ensemble Competition in 1993. He has since instructed, designed, or coordinated for numerous drum corps, including Phantom Regiment, Phantom Legion, the Bluecoats, Blue Knights, Colts, and Tar Heel Sun. He has designed productions for hundreds of marching bands, winter guards, and drum corps, including the University of Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band’s 2017 “Wave” field show.

Gray has adjudicated for Drum Corps International, Winter Guard International, state marching band associations, and regional competitive circuits throughout the country. His work as an educator, designer, and adjudicator reflects his commitment to collaboration, student growth, and helping performers achieve excellence.
